merging passions to improve the motherhood experience
My Education + Experience is in Clinical Psychology
Hello! I am Christie Whitley, Psy. D. I received my Masters in Christian Counseling from Regent University in 2006, and obtained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology through Regent University in 2009. I am a Licensed Psychologist and have worked as a therapist for over 15 years. I became passionate about maternal wellness after the birth of my own children, and went back for additional advanced level training from Postpartum Support International (PSI) in Perinatal Mental Health in 2018 and have been working with the maternal population in my private practice since.
Maternal Mental Health Matters
You matter. Your experiences matter. It's estimated that 1 in 5 women have postpartum mood distress. Other concerns can relate to struggles with fertility, past birth trauma (or other trauma), or loss + grief. Many couples express feeling ill-prepared and caught off-guard by some of the challenges they faced in the perinatal period. I quickly discovered
that not all women felt supported, informed and empowered in their experiences, and thus my determination to improve maternal mental wellness was born.

a personal note
I am joyfully married, we have 5 children, and one child awaiting us in Heaven. Though I was born and raised in North Carolina (southern gal here, y'all!), I became a midwesterner when I met my husband in Kansas City one beautiful fall day in 2008. We are "mini homesteaders" -- raising cows, chickens, sheep, pigs, guineas, and our farm dog, Captain.
I enjoy traveling with my husband -- seeing new sights and finding great restaurants, with Russia and Aruba being two of my favorite trips. I live for the beach, a good book, baking with my kids, and going to parks + nature centers!
